Ballot papers have gone out this week to all our members who work in local government, schools and the National Parks, following confirmation of the final offer in respect of the 2020/21 pay claim.

UNISON’s head of local government and schools says something has changed in our fight for a fair pay rise.

Unions welcome improved pay offer of 2.75% for local government and school workers, but call on the government to fund a further increase to help make up for the 20% reduction in pay over the last 10 years.

Local government employers met today to respond to our pay claim for 2020. The trade unions were very disappointed with the response and have rejected the initial offer of just 2% on all pay points, not least because this is far behind other public sector pay settlements in recent years.

Unions have lodged our 2020/21 play claim for local government Chief Officers, which mirrors the claim for all NJC local government workers of 10% and an extra day annual leave.

Following consultation with our members who work in local government, UNISON along with GMB and Unite (the three largest local government unions, representing 1.4 million employees in schools and councils across England, Wales and Northern Ireland) have submitted a pay claim that attempts to reverse the real terms pay cuts suffered by local authority staff since 2010.
