Working together with NYCC to support essential services

We are pleased to announce that we have been working with North Yorkshire County Council to ensure that staff can be deployed to support essential or statutory services during the Covid-19 emergency.

During an emergency, most local government workers can be deployed to different roles and asked to work different hours to support essential or statutory services.

Already hundreds of our members have come forward to volunteer to keep these services going.

We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NYCC to provide reassurance to staff that any changes to roles or working arrangements will be temporary and only for the duration of the Covid-19 response.

Some key services have had to change the way they work due to emergency legislation, such as in adult social care where teams are now having to provide a service from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. The legislation can be applied for up to 2 years, but we have agreed with NYCC that changes to working arrangements will be reviewed monthly and normal working will return as soon as possible after the emergency has ended.
