Pay update for school and council workers

UNISON’s NJC committee have agreed to consult our members working in schools and for local councils about the 2022 pay offer.

The offer is for a flat increase of £1,925 on all spinal points which is the equivalent of £1 an hour for all grades. The offer also includes an additional day’s annual leave for all staff from 1 April 2023.

Our claim was for a flat increase of £2,000 or the current rate of inflation, whichever is higher.

Our NJC committee have taken a neutral position on whether members should accept or reject the offer, and the ballot information will set out the pros and cons of the offer so that members can make an informed decision.

The consultative ballot will launch week commencing Monday 15 August and will close on 19 September.

This was the employers first, and they say their final, offer. We believe that to secure any additional amount would require us to be prepared to take strike action.

It is really important that all members take part in the consultative ballot.
