UNISON member Danny completes charity swim

UNISON member, Danny Abdy, recently completed a 5km charity swimathon in aid of Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie. He completed the challenge in a personal best time of 1 hour and 56 minutes, so far raising £1,245 for the good causes.

Danny was a member of our branch until he transferred to our health branch earlier this year, and our branch was pleased to sponsor him £50.

Thousands of swimmers like Danny headed down to their local pool between Friday 10th September and Sunday 12th September to complete their challenge, and raise money for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie.

Cancer Research UK, the worlds leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don’t receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like Danny.

Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in peoples homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.
