As you can see from the letter, we have set out the local government pay claim for 2021 and explained why we believe that our members working in schools and local government deserve a 10% pay rise this year. We have asked our councillors to support our claim.

Wendy Nichols, our Branch Secretary said: “Ten per-cent sounds a lot, but this isn’t a pie-in-the-sky pay claim. Private sector pay is recovering faster than public sector pay after a decade of cuts and austerity. In that time, local government workers have actually had a real-terms pay cut of up to 25%.

“We have provided a detailed, evidence-based document to support our pay claim and we hope our elected councillors will support you in urging employers and the government to give you a decent pay rise this year.”
